From unpacking the racial trauma caused by viral videos, to uncovering decades-long FBI warnings of white nationalism in law enforcement, Kenya Evelyn’s (nee Downs’) coverage of race and identity has often shaped national affairs debates.

With more than a decade on the identity beat, her reporting, video and audio production as well as media analysis has offered thoughtful, provocative coverage and insight into the communities most vulnerable to American journalism -  impacting both people and policy.

Most recently, her work as a reporter for The Guardian centered on race in public health, national affairs and the 2020 presidential election. Follow her now as she leads Insider’s coverage of race and identity as editor for Voices of Color.
